When reassurance keeps the cycle going
Obsessive-compulsive disorder can involve intrusive thoughts, repeated checking, mental reviewing, avoidance, or asking others for reassurance. The content of a thought may feel deeply personal, but the cycle often has a familiar shape: distress rises, a ritual or reassurance brings temporary relief, and the question returns.
It can be exhausting to keep trying to solve a question that refuses to stay solved. We can begin by identifying the pattern with care and without judgment.
Making room for uncertainty
My work is grounded in a practical CBT approach. Together we can look at the way thoughts, feelings, and behaviors reinforce one another and consider responses that loosen OCD’s hold. Change usually involves learning to tolerate some uncertainty instead of requiring a perfect feeling of certainty before moving on.
We will talk about your particular experience and what kind of treatment plan and support are appropriate for you. You do not need to explain everything perfectly in an initial inquiry.
I offer counseling at the Richardson office and by telehealth, subject to current availability.
